Notes
Summer Lovin’: Magical Mojito
To me, nothing says summer is here quite like a magical Mojito. That’s what makes it a magical cocktail. That and the fact that they are super simple to make, delicious, and easy to drink. Seriously, you can crush half a dozen of these babies without breaking a sweat, so best moderate.
There might be a few unfamiliar things on the equipment list. So just to get you up to speed, let’s see what we need.
First up the muddler. They look like a wand with a rubber tip that has ridges or spikes. They are used for crushing ingredients, like peels and rinds, in a glass. A muddler will usually come included in a starter cocktail set.
Second, the Lewis bag. This is a special burlap bag which is used to smash ice. You don’t need a Lewis bag. Your freezer might make crushed ice. If you have a blender, it might also get the job done. You might also think it’s not worth effort. If you so desire, just use ice cubes. The drink will still get your drunk.

Substitutions & Changes
The above recipe for the magical Mojito works just fine, but feel free at alter the amount of alcohol as you see fit. If you are a lightweight, reduce the rum to 1 ounce (30ml). If you want a bit more of a kick, ramp it up to a full 2 ounces (60ml). I like my Mojitos strong, and white rum is almost tasteless.
If you have coconut rum, it makes for an excellent substitute for the white rum. It will add a more tropical flavor, which is a bit different than a traditional Mojito. That said, it tastes most excellent.
Do note that the substitution is for coconut rum, NOT Malibu. Malibu is a coconut liquor with rum. It is NOT, I repeat… NOT a coconut rum. The alcohol percentage clocks in at 21%, which is far below what a rum should be. It is super sweet, so it will throw the entire taste of the drink.
I am putting this one here ironically. I want to say that band isn’t taking the song seriously, but I honestly can’t really tell.
