Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 30 minutes
Servings: 4

Ingredients

Spices
  • 1 Teaspoon Cumin
  • ½ Teaspoon Chili Powder
  • ½ Teaspoon Paprika
  • 1 Teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1 Teaspoon Salt
  • 1 Tablespoon BBQ Sauce
Meat Mixture
  • 1 Medium Purple Onion (very finely minced)
  • ½ Red Bell Pepper (very finely minced)
  • 10 Black Olives, Pitted (very finely minced)
  • 500 Grams Minced Meat (beef or pork)

Equipment

  • Cutting Board
  • Knife
  • 2 Mixing Bowls
  • Food Processor (optional)

Method

  1. Measure out and mix all the spices together, including the BBQ sauce, in one bowel. It should create a thick, viscus mixture. Set aside.
  2. Use a food processor to finely mince the onion, red bell pepper, and olives. The pieces should be very small, as this will help the raw meat mixture stay together.
If you don't have a food processor, just use a knife and cutting board to put your kitchen skills to the test.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the minced meat and finely minced vegetables together until everything is well incorporated.
  4. Add the mixture to the meat and massage the spices into the meat until well mixed.
  5. Portion out into paddies; it should make 6 to 7 average size burgers.
  6. Refrigerate for 6 hours. This will let the paddies set and become more solid.
  7. Grill and add fixings.

Notes

*If you use pork, don’t serve the burgers rare. Pork needs to be cook thoroughly to kill harmful bacteria.

A Row Of Homemade Heavenly Burgers; Dress’em Up How Ever You Want (envato.com)

These heavenly hamburgers will have your friends and family worshiping you and begging for more at the next cookout. It’s never been simpler to go from good to gourmet. Seriously! With just a few small recipe hacks you will turn the ordinary into the extraordinary. It’s so easy that it feels like cheating.

The only thing to be mindful is about the type of BBQ sauce you use and how much. A thin, soy sauce based sauce is NOT the way to go. This will totally ruin the taste profile and the cohesion of the burgers. You need to opt for an American style BBQ sauce. Something tomato based and thick.

If having difficulty finding proper BBQ sauce in Japan, I recommend looking in Costco, Kaldi, The Meat Guy, or Amazon.

Remember not to overdo it with the BBQ sauce. If the meat mixture is too wet the paddies won’t form and/or they will fall apart on the grill.

Take a peach, take a plum, take a piece of bubblegum. No peach, no plum, just a piece of bubblegum. Hey boy, what’s your name? Yodi, what you eat? Hamburger, grill me some.
