Substitutions & Notes For The Peaches & Cream

Peach Cocktail with Fresh Peaches on a Wooden Table (envato.com)

Making a Peaches & Cream cocktail is pretty simple, but a few ingredients might be throwing you. Here’s what you can and can’t swap, and why.

Don’t have vanilla vodka? No problem!

You can use regular vodka in it’s place. It won’t 100% be as good. I know it takes some pre-planning, but making your own Vanilla Vodka is super easy.

Is Simple Syrup necessary?

Crème de Peach is pretty sweet on it’s own, so I mistakenly thought it would carry the sweetness of the drink. It doesn’t! This is not a drink where you want any of the bitter notes of the alcohol to slip through.

Can Milk be subbed for Cream?

You can, but I feel it’s a cheap move. Milk is thin and also lacks the deep, fatty taste of a heavy cream. It can be done, but it will be an inferior version.

Best Crème de Peach?

I have a hard time finding good fruit liqueurs in Japan. By good, I mean something that is made with real fruit, not just chemicals.

I have yet to try it, but this might be a good option if you’re in Japan.

Will any Bitters work?

NO!

There are many different types of bitters in the word, and they all have different uses. Regular bitter have stronger herbal notes, which is not what you want in this drink.

I specifically called for Vanilla Bitters in this recipe, as it adds the right flavors to this drink.

Do you absolutely need bitters for this drink? No. If you omit the bitters, it won’t break this recipe. Bitters are there to add some complexity. They really help out in drinks that are very sweet.

You might experience sticker shock when looking at artisan bitters. Keep in mind that a bottle of bitters will last you years, unless you’re running a bar.

Don’t have a fresh Peach? No problem!

The fresh peach slice is mostly a garnish, and it can be omitted. Mostly it’s just for looks, but it does add a bit of natural fragrance to the drink.

Peaches & Cream: Something for the Early Summer

This Peaches & Cream cocktail is our very own creation. It was heavily inspired on the early summer peach season.

When’s a good time to indulge in a Peaches & Cream?

This is a fanatic drink for breakfast or brunch and pairs extremely well along side these most excellent yogurt pancakes. It’s a guarantee that you’ll be setting yourself up for a fantastic day.

It also goes really well with fruit pies. The flaky, buttery crust is complimented by the creamy tones of the cocktail. It might seem like overkill, but a peach pie just seems right.
