Orange Creamsicle: Summertime Classic

The Orange Creamsicle is the perfect drink for those hot summer days when you something cool and refreshing, but also something adult. This is perfect blend or nostalgia and tying one on. What more could you ask for.

To get the best taste out of your drink, I highly recommend not subbing anything out. You might be tempted not to use vanilla vodka, but you’ll be undercutting the taste.

Don’t buy artificially flavored spirits. Make your own! It’s easy!
Vanilla Vodka

I also highly recommend getting a bottle of Licor 43. It’s a very unique triple sec that has notes of vanilla. It’s my go to triple sec whenever I’m making a drink that blends citrus flavors and vanilla. If you want to make quality cocktails at home, you won’t regret getting a bottle. I can’t Find it in Japan, but you can order it from the UK from Masters of Malt and ship internationally. Yes, it’s definitely worth it.

One last that I would like to note about this cocktail, and it’s that the orange juice can really make or break this cocktail. Low quality juice will make this cocktail taste sour and flat. For best results, squeeze your own oranges. Invest a few extra minutes of labor will pay back ten fold.

Alterations & Variations

The Creamy Variation of the Orange Creamsicle (G. McGregor/ https://pawprintphoto.net)

This is a fun cocktail to play around with, so I’ve done quite a bit of experimentation. These are two best variations I’ve hit upon.

  • Turn it into a desert

This is a super simple hack. All you need to do is add one scoop of vanilla ice cream and pour the drink over top. You can serve in a bowl or in a cocktail glass.

  • Turn up the creaminess

If you desire something that is bit smoother and silkier, just add 2oz (60ml) of cream or half and half to the cocktail shaker before shaking. You’ll get a far creamier taste, with orange and citrus notes on the back end.
