Blue Lagoon: Embarrassing The Tropics

One thing you can’t deny, the Blue Lagoon is one hell of a tasty drink. It’s also a stunning blue, which ups the cool factor quite a bit. There’s just something about kicking back a blue cocktail that says it’s time to chill and enjoy life.

What makes it blue?

The magic ingredient is blue curaçao, an orange flavored liquor that is artificially colored with dye. For the most part, blue curaçao is pretty much a triple sec. You should be able to sub out the blue curaçao for the latter and get an almost identical taste, but only a fraction of the cool.

Make your own simple Syrup! It’s easy!

The other that’s great about this drink is that’s it’s so easy to make. All the ingredients are inexpensive as well. The only thing that might trip you up is the crushed ice, which really is a must.

You can get this done two way. The cheapest way is with a Lewis bag. This is a special burlap bag which is used to smash ice.

The more expensive, and easier way, is a blender.

COCKTAILS; GETTING STARTED

All I could think about as I was awash in the blue lagoon is that this is what people must have drank in the 80s as they watched Miami Vice.
