Ingredients
- 1 1/2 oz Vodka (45ml)
- 4 oz Orange Juice (120ml)
- 1 Orange Slice (very optional)
Instructions
- This cocktail is built in glass.
- Start by filling a highball glass (or whatever you have) with ice.
- Next, add the vodka.
- Add the orange juice on top.
- Garnish with an orange slice, optional.

A good place to start
The ultimate poor man’s cocktail. For the perspective of person concocting this drink; you don’t need many ingredients to create this drink. The cocktail requires no special equipment. Lastly, it doesn’t really require any special skill or knowledge. Ask any random person on the street and odds are they know what’s in a screwdriver and could probably pull it off.
That’s no slam on the drink. There is nothing wrong with easy and simple. It’s a functional cocktail that gets the job done and has legion of fans around the world. It’s not our personal favorite, as we usually like more complicated drinks.
This is a great cocktail to begin your bartending journey with. It’s the first cocktail I ever attempted, back in high school.
At that time I made a lot of rookie mistakes, like not measuring out the vodka or getting the ratio of alcohol to soft drink ever close.
Don’t be like that. If you try to eyeball your measurements, instead of using a jigger, you will fail every time.
Take Your Screwdriver To The Next Level
There are a few things you can do to make your screwdriver better.
The simplest thing, and something we highly recommend doing, is make your own orange juice. All you need is a hand juicer and 2 or 3 oranges. Once you make your own juice, you’ll never go back to store bought.
