Jane’s Krazy Mixed-Up Basil

Jane’s Krazy Mixed-Up Basil

Review: Jane’s Krazy Basil ★★★★

Jane’s Krazy Mixed-Up Basil was a huge disappoint for me. For starters, I’ve never been a huge fan of dried basil. Something about it just doesn’t taste right to me. However, I was willing to give this a chance based how much I really love the Krazy Salt and Krazy Garlic.

The Krazy Basil is sugar-free, but it is NOT carb-free. This is something I completely missed as I ran through my container.

Here is the full list of ingredients: Salt, Basil, Garlic Powder, Corn Starch, Ground Parsley, Onion Powder, Tricalcium Phosphate, Palm Oil

The culprit here is corn starch, which is almost entirely carbs. For your reference, a cup of cornstarch is 128 grams, of which 117 grams are carbs. Ouch!

It also has palm oil, which I was surprised to discover. This will add some extra calories and fat to whatever you use it on, which is not the kind of ‘krazy’ I’m looking for.

If you’re wondering about Tricalcium Phosphate, that dubious sounding ingredient close to the end, it’s an anti-caking agent. I’m not thrilled about its addition here, but it seems to be a mostly benign additive.

As for the taste, it’s not any one thing too strongly. It doesn’t have a strong present of salt, garlic, or pepper. I mostly felt some weak notes of stale-tasting Italian spices. I used it in some salad dressings and on grilled chicken breasts. Neither usage impressed me or even compelled me to eat the dishes further. Not a good sign.

What to Use it on

The trash! Honestly, I threw out my unused portion of Krazy Basil after seeing what was inside. We cannot endorse or recommend you use this product. The ingredients are not good for you and the taste is not all that good. It’s not worth the money. Stick with the Krazy Mixed-Up Salt or Garlic (linked above).
